Diet
The northern shoveler is omnivore, feeding as much on seeds and lentil as on mollusks, insects, small fish and plankton.
Lifespan
Up to 20 years in the wild.
Reproduction
In April or May, the female lays between 8 and 12 eggs and incubates them for 21 to 25 days, unassisted by the male. The ducklings take their maiden flight at around 8 weeks of age.
Predators
Its main predators are the seagull, the crow, the skunk and the raccoon.
