Diet

Carnivorous, feeding principally on fish, but also takes crayfish, frogs, molluscs, insects and terrapins.

Lifespan

Up to 13 years in the wild and around 20 years in captivity.

Reproduction

Sexually mature at 2 years. Mating occurs between March and April. The 2-3 cubs are generally born between March and April after a delayed implantation (7½-10½ months) followed by an active gestation period of 2 months, and are weaned after 12-16 weeks.

Predators

Gray wolf, coyote, Canadian lynx, bobcat and great-horned owl.
