Carnivore, feeding mainly on rodents and other small mammals but also on birds, eggs, insects and reptiles.

Up to 15 years in the wild.

Canadian status

Data deficient for the population in the prairies and the population of the Grand Bassin, B-C are threatened.

Reproduction

From 1 or 2 years old for males and from 3 to 5 years old for females, mating takes place between June and August. Oviparous, the female lays from 2 to 24 eggs which she incubates for 65 to 75 days. The babies are independent as soon as being hatched.

Predators

Mainly fox, coyote and birds of prey.
