Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer)
Carnivore, feeding mainly on rodents and other small mammals but also on birds, eggs, insects and reptiles.
From 1 or 2 years old for males and from 3 to 5 years old for females, mating takes place between June and August. Oviparous, the female lays from 2 to 24 eggs which she incubates for 65 to 75 days. The babies are independent as soon as being hatched.
Up to 15 years in the wild.
Mainly foxes, coyotes and birds of prey.
Least concern. In Canada, the Pacific subspecies has disappeared from the country and the Large Basin species is threatened.
